It wasn't supposed to be. It was just perfect. For our founder — a Korean living in Hong Kong — that memory never faded. The further from home he got, the more clearly he could taste it. The smoky heat of the chili flakes. The deep warmth of fermented soybean. The springy bite of a noodle that held up in broth without falling apart. He wasn't trying to start a restaurant empire. He was just hungry for something that felt like home.

In 2011, Hungry Korean opened its first location in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong — a small restaurant built on a simple belief: authentic Korean food should be fast, fresh, affordable, and made without shortcuts. No MSG. No artificial ingredients. Just real Korean flavour, prepared daily from a central kitchen and served to a city that quickly fell in love with it. Over the next decade, Hungry Korean grew to eight locations across Hong Kong. OpenRice named us Best Korean Restaurant three years running. More than 80% of our customers kept coming back. But the restaurants were never really the point. They were proof that the food worked — that the flavours we grew up with could find a home anywhere.

The move to Canada wasn't about replicating the restaurant. It was about going back to the source — the home kitchen, the late-night bowl, the after-school ritual that started everything. What we sell isn't a shortcut.
